Men accused of killing Birmingham landscaper make court appearance

Wednesday morning, the suspects in the murder of a Birmingham landscaper made their initial court appearance. 24-year-old Donovan Burke{}is charged with capital murder, and 28-year-old Adrian Dunning{}is charged with{}murder during the commission of a felony.

The men appeared before{}Jefferson County{}Judge Shanta Owens by teleconference. Both were advised of the charges.

Police believe the men shot and killed 76-year-old Birl Jackson Monday{}outside the King Manor Apartments during a possible robbery.

Jackson was dropping off something to his Jackson Lawn Service employees who were cutting grass at the apartment complex when the shooting happened.

Neighbors say they heard three gunshots and found Jackson inside his car.

Jackson's grandson witnessed the shooting. He and several other witnesses were interviewed later that day.

Dunning was already wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Both men are being held without bond.
