Murder investigation launched after missing Etowah Co. man found shot to death inside torched car
FORT PAYNE - AL —
A 38-year-old man from Boaz was found shot to death inside a burning vehicle in Geraldine, the Dekalb County Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities responded to a car fire along County Road 135 and after extinguishing the blaze, they found the dead body. An autopsy later revealed the victim as Gary Lee Willis, who had been reported missing from Etowah County. He died of multiple gunshot wounds.Multiple agencies are involved in the investigation including Dekalb County Sheriff's Office, Etowah County Sheriff's Office, Marshall County Sheriff's Office and the Alabama State Fire Marshal.
"We are working hard to follow these leads," Sheriff Jimmy Harris said in a release. "Our people were out all night and additional officers were assigned today to help in getting this case solved."
