Moon Pie Drop returns for fifth year

New Yorkdrops a ball.{} Port Clinton, Ohio drops aWalleye.{} The city of Mobile will drop a moonpie.{}

Bringingin the New Year will be a 12-foot-tall electronic Moon Pie, descending from the34-story RSA BankTrust building.

This year'soutdoor New Year's Eve celebration is free and will include a Mardi Gras styleparade, a performance by the Commodores, and a laser light and fireworks show.

Mayor SamJones said a live 35-minute telecast of the Moon Pie Drop will be shown on 20TV stations in the Central Time Zone.

Mobileuses the Moon Pie because of the city's Mardi Gras tradition with moon pie's beingthrown from floats.
