Police near Atlanta are searching for a driver they say struck an SUV and then crashed into a MARTA stop, striking a 31-year-old woman directly and injuring several others after leading police on a short chase.

The incident happened late Thursday night when Fairburn Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a Dodge Charger.{} The driver took off and police lost sight of the vehicle when the driver shut off the headlights traveling at speeds up to 80 mph.{}

Police tell Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB the ordeal ended about a half-mile later, when the driver crashed into the SUV and then the MARTA bus stop in Union City. Police said the suspect could not open the doors of his Dodge Charger after the wreck, so he climbed out the sunroof and ran.{} Two passengers in the Charger stayed at the scene and will not be charged.

Fairburn police said the 31-year-old is in serious condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.
