Nearly 2,000 volunteers give back with Hands on Birmingham's MLK Jr. Day of Service

Nearly 2,000 volunteers fanned out across the Birmingham metro area Monday to volunteer at more than 50 sites.

The day of service was part of Hands on Birmingham's MLK Jr. Day of Service.

Hundreds of students from Miles College, Lawson State Community College, and The University of Alabama at Birmingham, painted the bollards at Legion Field.

"It's important for the community to see that we can come together and give back," said volunteer Jerry Brooks.
