      New information required for electronic tax filers in Alabama

      Alabamataxpayers filing their state tax returns electronically are supposed to supplynew information.

      The stateDepartment of Revenue says those filing Forms 40, 40-A and 40 NR should includetheir driver's license number or non-driver's license number and their date ofbirth. State Revenue Commissioner Julie Magee says the additional informationis for protection against identity theft and fraudulent tax returns. She saysthe information can be validated quickly and it will not affect the normalprocessing of a tax return.

      The IRSdoes not require driver's license numbers for Federal returns.{} Instead, personal identification numbers'sare used to protect those filers that have fallen victim to identity theft.
