New Jefferson County Program aims to help low income homeowners

A new program in Jefferson County hopes to help low income resident identify and repair leaks.

Homeowners who live outside of Birmingham, Hoover and Bessemer are eligible.

County Leaders said the program will cost $90,000 but they believe it will be beneficial.

Frederick Hamilton with the Jefferson County Community and Economic Development Agency said, "We are going to be able to help a lot of people that otherwise wouldn't have the funding to fix the leaks, which affects the water bill and drives up the sewer bill."

The county is expected to approve part of the funding for the program Thursday.
