New Jefferson County Superintendent to be named

Thursday afternoon, Jefferson county school district will{}step forward into its future. The district's school board is expected to select the system's new school superintendent. Superintendent Dr. Phil Hammonds will retire in February, 2013.

The board will meet at 2 o'clock.{}It could go into executive session prior to the actual vote, but, the vote itself will be public.

A spokeswoman for the local board says each of the five board members has been conducting further research on the remaining three finalists. The finalists are Dale Robbins, associate superintendent of Gwinnett county, Georgia school system, Dr. Karyle Green, superintendent of schools in New Haven, Indiana, and, Dr. Stephen Nowlin, superintendent Lee county, Alabama schools.
