One man killed, another injured in Shelby County fire

A fire at the Lakes of Inverness apartment complex claimed the life of one person. It injured another person and displaced several people Sunday night.

The fire started in the complex on the 3900 block of North Chesapeake Drive just after 9 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters say one unit was destroyed and the body of a man was discovered after searching the apartment. They say another person was injured but refused treatment at the scene.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, other renters were displaced.

Birmingham, Hoover and Cahaba Valley firefighters responded to the fire.

Shelby County and the State Fire Marshals are investigating the cause.
