Order signed to send troops to Turkey
WASHINGTON - DC —
Friday morning the Pentagon confirms an order to deploy troops to Turkey to protect Turkish territory from a potential Syrian missile attack.
400 troops and two Patriot air defense missiles will be sent to undisclosed locations in Turkey. The Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is en route to Turkey from Afghanistan.
Turkey is a founding member of NATO and requested that the alliance provide Patriots. They will be sent by NATO members Germany and the Netherlands as well as the U.S. for an undetermined period.
