Oxford estimates $250,000 in revenue during Talladega weekend
OXFORD - AL —
Talladega and its neighbors are gearing up for an economic boost this weekend.
Race fans will be in the area for the Camping World RV Sales 500. Oxford expects to take in about $250,000 in tax revenue during the weekend.
The city continues to grow with more restaurants, hotels and stores.
Oxford Finance Director, Alton Craft, says success builds on itself. Drawing more visitors supports more businesses and that growth draws in more customers.
"Our location, of course, helps us a lot more than most people want to give us credit for," Craft said. "But, it is that kind of thing, those kind of venues, like the race, that really put them over the top and keep them here from year to year."
Oxford now has more than 80 restaurants. Craft says events like the Talladega races helped bring those businesses to town.
