"Don't snitch" is an unwritten code in communities across the country. It's a notion that involves witnesses of crimes refusing to say anything to law enforcement. Some people blame the mentality on a history of police mistrust, while others say people don't come forward out of fear of retaliation. But it was the testimony of one witness, out of hundreds, that led to a guilty verdict Wednesday in the shooting death of 15-year-old Jarmaine Walton. A jury convicted 19-year-old Justin Jones of reckless murder in the crime that occurred in Birmingham's Railroad Park last year.Families of shooting victims have united to get people to report crimes. The group Parents Against Violence Foundation has started an online campaign.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0OEhqD4eb4To give an anonymous tip on crimes: Call Crimestoppers at (205) 254-7777.
