Parker's George Bates approved to be new football coach at Minor
George Bates will reportedly take over the football program at Minor High School.
The Jefferson County Board of Education approved Bates, who coached at Parker the past two years, for the Minor job on Tuesday morning.
Bates replaces Randy Cook, who coached the Tigers to the playoffs three times in seven seasons. Cook's overall record at Minor was 38-37, and the Tigers struggled to 4-6 finishes each of the past two seasons.
Bates led Parker to the playoffs in 2013, the first time the Herd had reached the postseason in four years. Parker's first round win Scottsboro, 24-0 was the programs first postseason victory since 2005 and it's first road playoff win since 1998.
The Herd had a 12-10 record in two seasons with Bates as it's coach.
