Rainbow City man killed after driving wrong way on I-59, colliding with 18-wheeler

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. -- A Rainbow City man was killed in an accident on Interstate 59 near Attalla, where he was driving in the wrong direction before colliding with an 18-wheeler, Alabama State Troopers said.

Santos Reyes, 26,{} died in the crash that occurred around 2:30 a.m. on I-59 South near mile marker 178.7, which is around three miles south of Attalla. According to state troopers, Reyes was traveling northbound in a southbound lane of the interstate before hitting a tractor-trailer. The driver of the truck wasn't injured.

Reyes wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor.

An investigation remains ongoing.


At least three vehicles were involved in an early-morning crash Monday on Interstate 59.

Responders are not releasing much information, but we do know a car, a tractor trailer and an Attalla Police car were involved in the accident on Interstate 59 in Attalla.
