Pat Sullivan has No. 25 Samford 4-0 for first time since '95; Preparing for Georgia Southern

The No. 25 Samford football team practiced for about two hours in full pads Tuesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are preparing for Saturday's Southern Conference game at ninth-ranked Georgia Southern.{}Samford and Georgia Southern are meeting for the eighth time, with GSU holding a 4-3 advantage in the series. Last season, GSU defeated Samford, 31-17, at Seibert Stadium.{}Saturday's game will mark the first time this season Samford has faced a team that runs the option offense. Samford head coach Pat Sullivan described Tuesday's practice as sluggish.{}{}"We're doing some new stuff, and we'll have to get better at that," Sullivan said. "Hopefully tomorrow they'll come back out and pick up some more of what we're going through. Working on the option is different than anything else we've gone against."{}Samford enters Saturday's game with a record of 4-0 overall and 2-0 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 25 in the Division I-FCS Coaches Poll for the first time since 1995. Georgia Southern is currently 2-1 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Eagles are ranked ninth in the Coaches Poll.{}"I like our football team," Sullivan said. "I think it has a lot of character. If we can stay healthy, then we have a chance. This week against Georgia Southern, we'll find out exactly where we are because Coach (Jeff) Monken has done a wonderful job. This is another outstanding Georgia Southern football team."
