Pedestrian struck by car in Shelby County (Update: 52-year-old woman dies)
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office reports that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early Friday evening on Alabama Highway 25.
The accident happened at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the Summerhill Community in Shelby County. Sheriffs have closed the highway in both directions between Highway 87 and the Columbiana city limits, and the roadway is expected to be closed for a significant period of time while deputies investigate the accident.
Local traffic is encouraged to find alternate routes of travel and all motorists are encouraged to drive slowly and watch for first responders in the area.Update #1
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Alabama Highway 25 Friday evening died at the scene.
Carolyn A. Dawson, 52, passed away from her injuries she sustained during the accident in the Summerhill community, between Columbiana and Calera. The highway was shut down in both directions following the incident. It has since been re-opened.
Investigators will return to the scene of the accident Saturday morning to complete their work, but the investigation remains on-going.
