A Pelham couple has made it their mission to top Clark Griswold's Christmas light display in the movie "Christmas Vacation."
Barbara and David Phillips have been putting on the display since 2003, and this year they have 40,000 lights, which is nearly twice the amount the Griswolds had in the movie.
"We said one day we'll beat them," said David Phillips. "And one year we hit 35,000!"
They had to scale back years ago due to the economy. Their bill averages around $500 to $600 in December.
"When we come home, we ride the circle just like people who come to see the lights," said Barbara Phillips. "We can't believe we've done this."
The Phillips turn on the lights at their Red Fox Drive house every night from 5 to 8 pm.
