Pelham Tobacco wholesaler to pay $1.7 million in tax case


{} {} The owner of a Pelham wholesale distribution company has pleaded guilty in a tobacco tax case, and will pay $1.7 million.{} {} Shamim Ahmed Khan entered the plea in Shelby County Circuit Court. {}He was charged with tobacco tax evasion and criminal possession of a forged instruction. {}Khan admitted not paying more than $806,000 in tobacco taxes. {}Khan may also spend time in prison.{} {} {}Khan was indicted in January on charges stemming from his role as president of Capital Wholesale and Distribution, which supplies convenience stores.
