Pinson Women Headed To Olympics

With the Olympics scheduled to begin this Friday, it seems that all eyes are on the athletes. But one local woman will be in London for the games, but she won't be competing.Jamila Kindall will be the person athletes will turn to when they have an injury. She'll be working with the Olympic medical team as a Sports Massage Practitioner. This is an opportunity where she'll be able to give back to the athletes and better her career without getting a paycheck.

"It's a warm feeling to be able to represent the state of Alabama, even the USA."Jamila Kindall is packing for the trip of a lifetime. She's heading to London for the 2012 Olympic Games. "I willbasically be helping the athletes recover from an injury." And she's volunteering her time to help athletes from every country be their best."They compete back to back usually so you want to decrease recovery time and help them perform at an optimal level." Kindall, a licensed massage therapist, applied with the London Olympic committee back in October 2010 to be apart of the medical team. After several interviews, she was accepted in January of this year. Credentials played a role, along with enthusiasm for the games. "There was a whole of 250,000 people that actually applied to be a volunteer with the Olympics, of that only 70,000 got that role." A role,{} that she must pay for out of her pocket. "I raised 10,000 over the course of 3 to 4 months. my mom helped as well. I did individual donations, corporate sponsorships. I did raffle tickets." All for the experience. Her mother will be flying there too, paying her own way without donations to be a support system for a couple weeks. Debra Agee says{} "It will be a lifetime experience for me too, to see her in action, so hey, she's massaging for us all to get the gold."Kindall says she'll be blogging with a camera for her employer -- sharing experiences with those back home. Kindall and her mother will leave Monday for the trip. Her first day on the job will be this Friday when the open ceremonies begin. She believes the experience will help her build her career and become a better practitioner.
