Police: 2 dead in home after standoff in Huntsville

Two people have been found dead inside a home in Madison, Ala. in an apparent murder-suicide, a spokesperson with the Huntsville Police Department confirmed Saturday.

According to a report on, a SWAT team entered the home located in the Knox Creek subdivision at 221 Mountain Creek Drive at around 12:25 p.m. following a standoff and found a male suspect and a woman shot to death. A second woman was also found shot and was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Two children under the age of 12 were discovered inside the residence unharmed.

Police responded to the location on a report of a domestic dispute at 7:40 a.m. Upon their arrival, the suspect had barricaded himself and four others inside the house beginning a nearly 5-hour standoff with police.

Officers were forced to evacuate nearby residents and shut down several roads in the neighborhood.

The identity of the victims is unknown at this time.
