Birmingham police are searching for a suspect who robbed Wells Fargo Bank at the intersection of 6th Avenue South and 24th Street South. It happened Friday evening around 5pm.
According to police, a man entered the bank and brandished a gun, holding a teller at gunpoint while demanding money. After the suspect received money, he fled the scene on foot.
A short time later, officers detained man who fit the suspect's description along 24th Street South, near University Blvd. But after speaking again to a teller, the investigation revealed the robber was not in custody. The detainee denied any involvement and was cooperating with the authorities before he was released.
The suspect is a black man, 5'10"-5'11", 200lbs. He is in the photo wearing glasses, a black cap, and leather jacket.
