Project Homeless Connect helps nearly 1,000 in need

Hands on Birmingham and One Roof organized more than 1,000 volunteers Saturday to help the local homeless community.

The annual, Project Homeless Connect, event at the BOutwell Auditorium offered housing, medical, job and legal-related services to more than 900 people in need. Project Homeless Connect is a nationwide initiative aimed at bringing a variety sources under one roof.

Organizers tell ABC 33/40 the event matches clients with volunteers so they can get the services they need. More than 65 local and federal agencies participated.
