Students who didn't get the chance to go to prom 50 years ago got their prom Friday night.
Organizers began setting up the Boutwell Auditorium around 2pm for the 300 plus attendees. The 1963 prom was canceled for black students, after many young people took part in civil rights protests.
Bernetta Everhart remembers that time, "This is my great day, and it could've been a time that we never had a prom but it's a blessing to have a prom where we can feel loved and feel great because we had no prom back then."
The "Prom they never had" started at 8pm and ended at 12am.
