Proposed legislation comes down hard on senior predators

{}{} The state of Alabama may get tougher on criminals who prey on senior citizens...whether its physical abuse or financial exploitation.

{}{}{}Monday, Lawmakers announced proposed legislation at the Heardmont Senior Center in Cahaba Valley.

{}{} Current laws only protect victims who are 65 years or older{} and considered mentally incompetent.

{}{} But, the new legislation would make abuse or exploitation{}a{}Class A felony for victims 60 or older as well.{} Anyone convicted would face up to 10 years in prison.

{}{}{} The new 'Senior Protection Legislation' will be introduced when the legislature convenes in February.
