Public hearing set to discuss Grand River development in Leeds

A vote the Mayor of Leeds said will be the key to the city's future is scheduled for Monday night.

Following a public hearing in the Leeds Civic Center Meeting Room, city leaders{}will{}vote on a rezoning plan to transform 600-acres{}along Rex Lake Rd.{}into approximately 500 single-family houses, businesses and a new school. The plan is part of the Grand River mixed-use development project.

"We want to grow in a responsible way," said Leeds Mayor David Miller. "But to be able to grow, you're going to have to have more rooftops."

The city has discussed the plan for years, but Mayor Miller said it didn't have the support to pass.

The public hearing is scheduled for 5 pm.
