Puckett's blast lifts Barons past Jacksonville

Cody Puckett made sure the wait was worth it for the Birmingham Barons.

The Barons infielder delivered a two run homerun in the sixth inning to lift Birmingham past Jacksonville, 2-0 in a game that started on Wednesday.

Rain suspended the game after two innings on Wednesday, and weather delayed the Barons and Suns over three hours on Thursday.

Puckett's homerun was the only offense either team could muster. Barons pitchers Chris Beck, Dan Remenowsky, David Cales and Kevin Vance combined to shutout Jacksonville for seven innings on Thursday night.

Cales got the win (1-0) in relief and Vance recorded his seventh save of the season.

Birmingham and Jacksonville will play a doubleheader on Friday. Both games will be seven innings and the first pitch is scheduled for 5:05PM CDT
