Quarterback Luke Del Rio transferring out of Alabama program

Luke Del Rio will not be Alabama's quarterback of the future.

The freshman announced via Twitter that he is leaving the football program.

Del Rio's twitter handle @Ldelrio12 posted:

I had an incredible year at Bama, it's sad to say it will be my last, I'm excited for the next chapter of my life and what it will bring

Del Rio later sent another tweet:

But I will always admit that Bama has the BEST fans in the nation, so much love and support through thick and thin #RollTide4Life

Del Rio chose to walk on at Alabama despite having scholarship offers from Oklahoma State Oregon State among others.

He was one of six quarterbacks on Alabama's roster but coach Nick Saban had said he was the No. 3 quarterback behind AJ McCarron and Blake Sims.

Alabama's quarterback competition will play out between Sims, Alec Morris, Cooper Bateman, Parker McLeod and incoming freshman David Cornwell.
