Red Mountain Park receives $200,000 to build off-leash dog park

Red Mountain Park receives a $200,000 contribution to build a 6-acre, off leash dog park.{} "Remy's Dog Park" will feature three designated areas to accommodate large dogs, small dogs and special needs dogs (elderly, shy, injured or recovering).{} Drinking water, hoses for on-site baths, lots of open space for running and shaded space for resting will be ready to welcome canines and their owners by the end of this year.

Ken Jackson, a community volunteer, charity live auctioneer and animal advocate, surprised Red Mountain Park with a $100,00 contribution.{} The donation was given in addition to another $100,000 from his 'Mac & Tosh' Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham. "Remy's Dog Park" is named for Jackson's late Jack Russell Shih Tzu Mix, "Remy."

"Doggie Work Days" at Red Mountain Park will welcome volunteers of all ages from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14.{} The public is encouraged to call (205) 202-6043 to sign up.
