Chris Lowe of ESPN reports that Kentucky has hired Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops as its new head football coach.
Stoops will replace Joker Phillips, who was fired on November 4 following a 40-0 home loss to Vanderbilt. Phillips was 13-24 in three seasons in Lexington, and just 4-20 in SEC play.
Stoops, in his second season in Tallahassee, has the Seminoles defense ranked second in the country in total defense. He was given a substantial raise after signing a new contract earlier this year to remain on Jimbo Fisher's staff. This will be his first career head coaching job.
Kentucky is expected to officially announce the hire sometime Tuesday afternoon.
