Rescue workers digging to save man buried in a hole (update)

Birmingham and Hoover firefighters have recovered the body of a man who was buried several feet underground after the hole he was doing plumbing work in collapsed on him Saturday morning.
The victim became trapped approximately 12 feet underground around 10 a.m., according to Birmingham fire. The man's name hasn't been released.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews are working to free a man who became buried while doing plumbing work underground.
According to Birmingham Fire Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis, the 31-year-old man became trapped approximately 12 feet underground after the hole he was in collapsed on top of him around 10 a.m. near Mayfield Avenue and 24th Street SW. The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.Hoover firefighters are assisting at the scene. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
