"Revive Birmingham" kicks off next week

Starting next week, parts of downtown Birmingham will "REV" up. In October, REV Birmingham is coordinating storefronts, pop-up shops, and street-level improvements in areas that have been vacant for years.

The idea is to show a variety of revitalization strategies and illustrate the potential these areas have.

"We will really be focusing a lot of attention on those areas, bringing entrepreneurs to those areas, to sort of 'activate' the street. We're working with the city on doing street improvements in those areas to really demonstrate what a revival could look like in those areas," says REV Birmingham executive director David Fleming.

REV Birmingham will target five commercial districts, starting with downtown.{} It will then move to{} East Lake, Ensley, Five Points South, and Woodlawn.
