Richard Marchase Named Interim President of UAB

Richard Marchase, Ph.D., a veteran administrator and academic leader,{} has been named interim president of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Trustees are now searching for a replacement for Carol Garrison.

Marchase has worked as vice president of research and economic development at the school since 2005. He joined the UAB faculty in 1986. He has earned degrees from Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University and Duke University.

Marchase is quoted on UAB's web site saying, "I am honored and delighted to be asked to serve in this interim role."We are on a great trajectory at UAB in every area our medical school and health system, our research enterprise, our undergraduate and graduate education and our partnerships with the community. We have a strong leadership team in place and we will absolutely not miss a beat in pursuit of our goals."
