Ricky Tarrant looking to transfer from Tulane basketball program

Sophomore guard Ricky Tarrant is transferring from{}the Tulane basketball program, but the player's family says the school denied{}his request for "permission to contact" other schools.

Tarrant's father said that his son, who starred at Pleasant Grove high school, would like to find a school closer to his hometown.

"He wants to play closer to home and that's the main reason he wanted to leave Tulane," Tarrant's father told the New Orleans Times Picayune. "He wants to be at home and he wants to play ball closer to home. I'm not going to elaborate any more."

Tarrant posted this message on his Twitter account on Tuesday: "I will not be attending nor playing basketball for Tulane University next year".

Tarrant was named to the C-USA All Conference Team in both of his seasons at Tulane.

Tarrant's father said Georgia Tech, Alabama are some of the schools that could be in the transfer mix.
