Road projects on I-459

Spring weather is often a good time for road crews to get some improvements made, and that's what's happening along Interstate 459 in Jefferson County.{} The Alabama Department of Transportation is closing lanes on I-459 while they perform the asphalt paving operation.{} Lane closures stretch northbound from north of Highway 150 to just before US 31.{} Crews are patching the road now.{} It could take about seven days to finish this part of the process.{} This could slow people heading to the Riverchase Galleria, or taking that Hoover exit.Once patching is complete, on or about April 13, the planning, resurfacing and striping will begin.{} This work will progress on both the northbound and southbound lanes until completion.{} The rehabilitation of the roads should be finished by mid August. This Jefferson County pavement rehabilitation is a $4.5 million dollar project.{} However, this is just one of several underway now.Overnight road work will continue through Thursday, April 10 a little farther up the interstate.{} From 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. each night, I-459 will have paving work done from south of the Grants Mill Road Interchange to the US 11 Interchange.{} This work will include the northbound outside and center lanes.{} The southbound lanes will see the same operations, starting Thursday.{} They should be wrapped up Saturday, April 12.
