ALDOT: 2 lanes of I-459 South closed this weekend for road work

ALDOT announces weekend road repair plans:

Weather permitting, the Alabama Department of Transportation announces a double lane closure beginning on Friday, April 4 at 8 p.m. until Monday, April 7 at 5 a.m., as follows:

-- The I-459 southbound two outside (right) lanes and shoulder will be closed in the area of the I-65 ramps leading onto I-459 southbound for concrete pavement repairs.

-- The I-459 southbound inside (left) lane will remain open to traffic.

This work is being scheduled during the weekend due to the repairs requiring the two I-459 southbound outside (right) thru traffic lanes to be closed and also due to the extended time required to remove the deteriorated concrete pavement; to place new concrete and allow adequate time for the concrete to cure properly before reopening the travel lanes to traffic.

Southbound traffic should consider using an alternate route detour. This work is expected to cause major delays and the ramps merging from I-65 onto I-459 southbound.

Please adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Maintenance Operation to improve Alabama's roadways.
