Roy Moore will run for Chief Justice in 2012

The former judge, who refused to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama Supreme Court, wants his old job back.

Roy Moore announced his bid for the post on the steps of the judiciary building.{} Moore was elected Chief Justice in 2000 and removed from office in 2003 for refusing to abide by a federal judge's order to take down the Ten Commandments display.

"What I was removed for was a wrong purpose.{} I mean, the right to acknowledge God, you know, it was never about the Ten Commandments," Moore said.{} "It was about the One who gave the Ten Commandments.{} Certainly every official acknowledges God, but the point is today, whether you really mean it," he added.Chief Justice Charles Malone and Mobile Circuit Judge Charlie Graddick are running for the Republican nomination.{}{} No democrat has announced.
