Samford finishes prep for App. State in pivotal SoCon matchup
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The 23rd-ranked Samford football team held its final full practice in preparation for this weekend's game at Appalachian State with a one-hour workout in short and helmets Thursday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs put the finishing touches on their game plan for Saturday's key Southern Conference contest. Samford enters the game with a record of 4-2 overall and 2-0 in SoCon play. Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he's been pleased with the way his team has prepared this week. "I think we've had a good week of practice," Sullivan said. "We're beaten up, we're playing for the seventh-straight week, but we have to find a way to get through this next game and then we'll get a week off to heal them up a little bit. But, I'm excited about watching them play this Saturday." Appalachian State is currently 1-4 overall and 1-1 in league play. Last season, Appalachian State scored a touchdown in the final minute to defeat Samford, 28-25, at Seibert Stadium. Sullivan talked about what he sees as the keys to Samford coming away with a win Saturday afternoon. "We can't go up there and turn the ball over," Sullivan said. "It will be as good of an atmosphere and we'll play in all year up at Kidd Brewer. They'll get a run in sometime and we have to survive that and come back, as we did last week in the second half and put our run together and hopefully it will be good enough to overcome their's." Samford will hold a final walk-through before leaving campus at 11 a.m. Friday morning for Boone, N.C. Samford's game at Appalachian State is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. (CT) kickoff Saturday from Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, N.C. The game can be heard locally on FM-99.5 The Vibe, or worldwide on the internet at www.995thevibe.com.
