Samford to play opener at Georgia State without head coach Sullivan

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Samford head football coach Pat Sullivan announced Tuesday afternoon that he will miss the team's season-opening game at Georgia State Friday evening while continuing to recover from back surgery.

Sullivan released the following statement regarding his absence: "I will not be able to travel to our game this Friday," Sullivan said. "I am still recovering from back surgery. I know our staff will do a wonderful job. I look forward to being back soon." Friday night's game at Georgia State is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (CT) start from the Georgia Dome.
