Samford quarterback Andy Summerlin landed back to back blows in the SoCon awards race.
He was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Month for October on Wednesday, which is the second consecutive month he has received the league honor.
Samford went 3-0 in October with a win over Georgia Southern at home and Appalachian State and Wofford on the road. Each of those teams reached the postseason last year.
Summerlin threw for 1,019 yards and six touchdowns in October, including a school record 495 yards passing in the Bulldogs win over Georgia Southern.
For the season, Summerlin has thrown for 2,573 yards which is 234 yards short of Samford's career record of 2,807 set by Ray Nelson in 2004.
Samford plays at Furman on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. from Paladin Stadium in Greenville, S.C.
