Samford's Summerlin named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week

Andy Summerlin's final pass against Elon wasn't his longest but it was the most important.

Samford's quarterback threw a 12- yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left to give his team a 33-32 win.

It dramatic victory helped earn Samford a spot in the FCS playoffs and helped Summerlin become the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Summerlin completed 36 of 55 passes for 415 yards and four touchdowns against Elon. It's his third 400-yard passing performance of the season.

Samford will play Jacksonville State in the opening round of the FCS playoffs. The game is scheduled for Saturday night at 7 at Snow-Burgess Stadium in Jacksonville.
