Vestavia Hills Athletic Association warns of ad scam
The president of the Vestavia Hills Athletic Association said Wednesday a new advertisement scam is taking money away from local businesses and sports teams.Louis Noto said solicitors are selling ad placements on items such as posters under the false pretense that the proceeds would benefit the athletic association, but area sports teams haven't seen a dime of the money. Just last week, a local business owner reported a similar incident to the city's Chamber of Commerce."They are scamming our businesses, taking money away from our community, our school and our kids. They are not helping out at all," Noto said.According to Vestavia Hills police, no reports have been filed with the department to date.Noto is urging local businesses to check with the high school before purchasing any school-related advertisements.
