School principal accused of hitting female custodian

Yvonne Godbolt, School Custodian

Arrington Middle School principal, Mario Lumzy, is accused of hitting a female custodian during an argument Wednesday. ABC 33/40 tried to contact Lumzy, but the spokesperson for Birmingham City Schools said he did not want to comment at this time.

Custodian, Yvonne Godbolt, says she has scars from the physical confrontation with Lumzy at Arrington Middle School. She says an argument started over scuff marks on a hallway floor during Career Day Wednesday.{} Godbolt says Lumzy was not satisfied with her work and asked her to clean floors during her lunch break. "I never experienced anything like this in my life. Especially on a job," said Godbolt.

She says Lumzy and an assistant principal followed her into a storage room and verbal sparring escalated to finger pointing and a physical confrontation. "He hit me, like I hit him," Godbolt said.

Birmingham City Schools released this statement Thursday: "The Birmingham City School System administration is investigating a report of a confrontation between the principal at Arrington Middle School and a custodian. No further information is available at this time."
