SCLC calls Cooper Green layoffs "devastating"

The local SCLC president is calling the Cooper Green Mercy Hospital layoffs disappointing, devastating and a disenfranchisement. Bishop Calvin Woods plans on addressing the issue Monday.

Monday morning, Woods will hold a news conference on the steps of the Jefferson County courthouse to discuss the employees who were put on unpaid administrative leave.

Cooper Green will cease in-patient care December 31st and transition into an urgent care center.

210 employees will lose their jobs, including the current hospital director Dr. Sandral Hullett. Those employees were notified last week about going onto administrative leave without pay.
