Scott Padgett 'only looking forward' as head basketball coach at Samford

Scott Padgett met the media for the first time as Samford basketball's head coach on Monday and made it clear that the program's focus is forward."I have had contact with Bennie (Seltzer) and I'm grateful for him giving me a chance to coach with him. But, we're focused on the future," Padgett said.Padgett replaces Seltzer, who was let go last week after Samford struggled through two seasons and a 24-41 record. The Bulldogs have also struggled to keep players in the program. Fourteen players have transferred out over the last two years."I'm focusing on the twelve that decided to stay," Padgett said. "We'll stay together and we'll win together."Padgett was Seltzer's top assistant through both seasons and has also worked as an assistant at Kentucky and Manhattan College.Assistant coach Jake Headrick, manager Matthew Powell and video coordinator Charles Newton will remain on the basketball staff.
