Alabama Postgame Quotes Coach Mitch Gaspard

Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard talks about Wednesday's loss to LSU at the SEC Baseball Tournament. (

Opening Statement:

"We tip our hat to LSU and Cody Glenn. He was outstanding. He changed speeds and moved the ball around. We couldn't get any good swings off. They played clean. With the exception of the 1st inning, I thought we were sloppy and they put good swings on us. LSU was able to go the distance and save the bull pen. Overall, they did more to win the game and beat us today. We'll regroup and come back tomorrow." On Alex Bregman:

"I think he may be the best freshman in this league as long as I've been in the league. He has the flattest swing and the best approach. I played in the league against Rafael Palmeiro and this may have been a comparison back then, but that kid is outstanding. He's one of the best hitters I've seen at any time." On Charley Sullivan:

"LSU is such a good offensive team. There's always a fear that they can hit it right out of the building. They came out and the guys put some good swings on him. I was really pleased with the way he settled in. He gave us some good pitches and good innings to get through. The game settled in and he gave us some opportunities. Overall, I thought Charley did a super job, especially after the first inning."

Brett Booth

On Cody Glenn:

"He did a good job of mixing up and keeping us off balance. We had a couple of hits, but kind of spread them out. Every time he got out there, he did a good job of making a pitch and getting out the inning."

Ben Moore

On Cody Glenn:

"He kept us off balance by mixing it up. His fast balls have a lot of movement and he was able to make all three pitches for strikes today. He was really good today."

LSU Postgame QuotesCoach Paul Mainieri

Opening statement:

"It was a very well played game by both teams. It was also a very well pitched game by both teams. We had a nice first inning against Charley Sullivan. It looked like we could have a big day, and he regrouped like the great competitor that he is. I have a lot of respect for him. I also tip my hat to our guy, Cody Glenn. He really answered the call and pitched a tremendous ballgame for us. He was as sharp as I have ever seen him with all three of his pitches. We played good defense. We had a big 1st inning. In the end, our pitching and defense carried the day for us. It was a good win for us and a good way to start the SEC Tournament." On the pitching matchup for tomorrow's game:

"If you're a fan of baseball, not even college baseball, you'll be looking forward to this matchup tomorrow. I like to think that Aaron (Nola) is going to be a first round pick next year. We know (Ryne) Stanek is going to be this year. He's outstanding. He's a power arm. I love our guy, Aaron Nola. He's as good as any of them. I know our hitters are looking forward to the challenge." On Alex Bregman:

"This kid is an amazing player. Some guys just love the game and their instincts just ooze out. This kid is a great defender at shortstop and an outstanding hitter. One thing that doesn't get as much credit as it deserves is his ability on the bases. He's a tremendous base stealer, but his instincts for running the bases are great also."

Alex Bregman

On having to wait to get their game underway:

"Yes, we had to sit in the bus for a bit because of the extra innings but we were just so excited and ready to compete. We put together some great at-bats and our whole team throughout the whole game had a great outing. We jumped out early and that gave us a lot of confidence the rest of the game." {} On how Cody's (Glenn) performance eases his job:

"Cody has done that for us all year; he sinks his fastballs so he gets a lot of ground balls so we're always awake. That's a tribute to Cody, he does a good job with that and keeps us all up in the game and it's really easy to play defense behind him. "

On starting today:

"I was really excited to pitch the opening game of the SEC Tournament; I had some butterflies at the beginning of the game. It was an exciting atmosphere, the field is great, the mound is perfect. Great environment."

Mason Katz

On Alex Bregnam's performance:

"He's a playmaker; he looks for reasons to help us win and he finds them everywhere possible. Today he had three hits like usual, but if he doesn't he finds other ways to win. He's so smart, he knows the game and does everything that people don't expect or even notice, that's why he helps us win. Even if he has a bad day, offensively or defensively, he helps us win." On today's game:

"Our team had the mentality all year long that everything we've done in the past is in the past and every day is a new day. We want to win this tournament; it doesn't matter what we have done in the regular season, none of that matters. We want to win."
