2 dead in accident on I-459 South in Hoover (update)
HOOVER, Alabama (UPDATE) -- A Ford Expedition traveling northbound on Interstate 459 in Hoover Tuesday lost control, crossed the median and crashed in the southbound lanes just north of Highway 31, killing two adults and sending two children to the hospital, one of whom with life-threatening injuries, Hoover Police Capt. Jim Coker said. To watch live online, click here. Initial Report: HOOVER, Alabama -- A serious accident with injuries has shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 459 in Hoover, ABC 33/40 has learned. The crash happened around 1 p.m. just before the Highway 31 exit. At least two people were ejected in the accident and there has been two confirmed fatalities. Hoover police have asked that people please avoid this area, if possible. "If you are on I-459 SB before I-65, avoid the area by exiting onto Acton Road or I-65 then find an alternate route to your destination," police said on Twitter.Several photos showing traffic at a standstill have been posted on Twitter, including the one shown left from Austin Marcum. The cause of the accident is not clear at this time.
