UPDATE: Talladega High School fight ends in arrests, early releases

Talladega City School leaders are investigating after a large fight broke out inside Talladega High School Wednesday morning.

School system spokesperson Joni Baker says the fight involved about 10 students, but a school resource officer quickly got the situation under control. Baker also confirms to ABC 33/40 that arrests were made but she is unaware of the number. Other school employees say the school was lockdown.

Dozens of parents left work and home early to pick up their students from the school. Marian Elston says her daughter, who is a senior at the school, called her in tears.

"She was just crying and saying, 'They are up here fighting. Come get me. It's crazy,' so, I got in my car and came up here and got her," Elston says.

Baker says the district is reviewing the tape from the fight for details.{}

"This incident will be dealt with according to all applicable laws as well as the Talladega City School System policy. Our focus is on the best interest of every student in our school district," Baker says in a news release.
