Columbia, SC (WACH) â?? The week of March 8th through March 14th is Severe Weather Awareness Week for the state of South Carolina.
As we head out of winter and into spring, our atmosphere begins to change and becomes more prone to severe storms. This week, the National Weather Service of Columbia, The South Carolina Emergency Management Division and the South Carolina Broadcasters Association will join together to promote awareness.
Focusing on safety, thunderstorms, lightning, tornadoes, flooding, winds, hail and ways to safely report severe weather, the goal of this week is to prepare the residents of South Carolina for the severe weather season.
Since Wednesday focuses on Tornados, a state-wide tornado drill will take place at 9am. Schools are encouraged to participate with its students, along with local emergency management and broadcasters. It is important for everyone to have a plan in the event of severe weather.
