Severe weather possible for Alabama Thursday night

A storm system is threatening to bring damaging winds -- and possibly isolated tornadoes -- to parts of Alabama.

The National Weather Service says the severe weather is possible late Thursday into Friday, as a cold front enters west Tennessee and northern Mississippi on Thursday afternoon, with a line of storms ahead of the front.

Forecasters say it appears the main threat will be damaging winds of more than 60 mph along the line of thunderstorms. They say the possibility of isolated tornadoes can't be ruled out.

The greatest threats are expected to be in a swath of central and north central Alabama that includes Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Gadsden. But almost all of central Alabama has the chance of seeing severe storms.
