Severe weather possible overnight Thursday night

Severe weather outlook for Thursday night

From the ABC 33/40 Weather Blog:

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a "moderate risk" of severe weather for the northwest corner of Alabama for late tonight/early Friday morning. There is also a "slight risk" as far east as Scottsboro. Muscle Shoals, Florence, and Hamilton are in the moderate risk, while places like Tuscaloosa, Cullman, Birmingham, and Greensboro are in the slight risk area.

The main risk of severe weather will come from around midnight through 6:00am Friday morning. The severe weather risk is less for Anniston and Gadsden.

All modes of severe weather are possible in the moderate risk area, including the threat of damaging straight line winds, hail, and possibly isolated tornadoes. In the slight risk area, the primary risk will be straight line winds, although an isolated tornado can't be ruled out.

Since this event is expected in the middle of the night, it is very important that you have a NOAA Weather Radio so you won't miss any warnings while your family is sleeping. You will not hear an outdoor warning siren in your home.

ABC 33/40 will be at the Publix in Pell City from 3:30 - 6:30 Thursday if you need assistance programming your NOAA Weather Radio. If you don't already have a NOAA Weather Radio, you will be able to purchase one at Publix.

Be sure you HAVE A PLAN.
